RIFOCS to present on fiber-connector choices

August 30, 2001 Doug Parker of RIFOCS Corp. (www.rifocs.com) will present a tutorial entitled "Fiber Optic Interconnection Choices for Your Application" during the 34th International Connector & Interconnection Technology Symposium and Trade Show. The event will be held at the Disneyland Hotel and Conference Center in Anaheim, CA October 1-3.

"Fiber-optic data transmission is becoming increasing popular as we rapidly go deeper into the information age," Parker says. "With significantly higher data rates being used even in applications that traditionally used electrical signals, fiber optics is a more attractive alternative because of the many advantages over copper. Every designer and systems engineer needs to know what those advantages are and when fiber optics is the choice that makes the most sense."

The Basics of Fiber Optic Interconnection tutorial will present background information and fundamentals of how fiber works, leading into a discussion of fibers, cables, connectors, transmitters, receivers, and other system components. The tutorial's emphasis will be on fiber-optic connectors, how they work, and a review of some of the most popular connector interfaces available.

The symposium and trade show are sponsored by the International Institute of Connector and Interconnection Technology Inc. (IITIC—www.iicit.org), and the Electronic Components, Assemblies, and Materials Association (ECA—www.ec-central.org).
