Online resource targets 'greener' cabling approach

February 12, 2008 -- Siemon has launched an online resource dedicated to sharing strategies for environmentally responsible IT network practices, as well as examples of the company's own approach to "green" operations.

Siemon says the online resource offers "actionable advice" on reducing the environmental impact of IT activities through cabling best practices. The site specifically addresses the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED [Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design] program and its global counterparts, providing both an overview of these programs and cabling strategies designed to secure green building credits. These strategies are supported by Siemon's own LEED-certified support team.

The site also provides information on Siemon's ISO 14001 certification and global RoHS [Restriction on the use of Hazardous Substances] initiatives, including education about RoHS compliance, and Siemon's company-wide pre-deadline compliance actions. Additionally, Siemon says the online resource highlights the company's operational dedication to environmentally responsible stewardship through a green news section listing the company's most recent environmental awards, certifications and global initiatives.

Visitors to the site can also explore the conservation efforts underway at Branch Hill Farm, a 3000-acre tree farm in New Hampshire owned by the Carl Siemon Family Charitable Trust and operated by Cynthia Wyatt, daughter of the late Carl Siemon and member of the Siemon Company board of directors. The farm serves as "a living public laboratory" for educating all age groups about good forest and field management and participates heavily in a wide array of conservation efforts, notes Siemon.
