April 17, 2008 -- Open platform IP video management software provider Milestone Systems provider recently announced new deployments of its technology in Buffalo, NY and Hoboken, NJ.
For an upscale residential property development project, REMI Companies of Hoboken, is using Milestone's XProtect IP video management software to support multiple camera types and integration with other systems such as access control, alarms, and intercoms.
Bankers and investors for the project were given remote access to the Milestone software for viewing progress as the housing complex was built. REMI management simultaneously was able to monitor and control construction activities and deliveries. Residents of the finished complex and its concierges are given access to the video capability as well.
"It's good for us, we got to survey and control our job site and give access to our investors to keep them happy during the project construction," comments David Lepak, director of technology at REMI Companies. "Now we use the surveillance system to monitor employees and maintenance of the building. Residents have views to see the entrances while the concierges use the full complex overview. Milestone provided an enterprise-level networked solution running more than 60 cameras for us at this location. We are very happy with it."
REMI Companies and system integrators Vision Voice & Data selected Danetech Inc. of Rhode Island to install the Milestone software to manage a mix of cameras from Axis, Toshiba and Videology. A Zeus server is dedicated to the Milestone recordings. The server room also contains the central equipment for Keyscan access control, Viking intercom, and a networked phone system. Overall security is complemented by ADT burglar alarms, 24-hour concierges with command center views in the Milestone software, and night guards from Planned Security Services of New Jersey.
Construction started the summer of 2005 and was completed in May 2007. The complex, dubbed "Velocity at Hoboken," has 128 units (64 per building), concierge service, two fitness centers, and parking garages. The buildings' network setup includes free Internet and wireless connections, cable TV, and access to video surveillance.
REMI plans to use the same approach with Milestone IP's video at its next project in New York, "Velocity at Greystone," an 11-story luxury high-rise on the banks of the Hudson River, due for completion the end of 2008.
Separately, for its business expansion project, the Buffalo Athletic Clubs (BAC) of Buffalo, NY are using Milestone's IP video management software with Axis network cameras for improved security and protection of assets, employees and members. BAC operates a chain of seven fitness centers in Buffalo; the associated Rochester Athletic Clubs (RAC) comprises a chain of five locations in Rochester, New York. The companies jointly serve over 47,000 members.
With multiple sites open until late-night hours 7 days a week, cash in the offices, and a central downtown location for its headquarters, the chain of fitness clubs had experienced break-ins, theft (both external and internal), and vandalism. Personnel and membership safety issues from possible operational injuries are also a concern.
The chain is using the Milestone XProtect Enterprise IP video software to manage the Axis network cameras at each of its clubs, scheduling recording and archiving images to a database for easy searching and exporting. The software user interface also provides live viewing of any location locally or remotely, including control of pan/tilt/zoom functionality to zoom in for detail.
The central administration of the system makes efficient use of BAC's IT infrastructure; the chain says the ability to easily add new network cameras anytime gives its the scalability it needs as a growing business.
