May 12, 2008 -- BICSI recently hosted its 2008 BICSI Spring Conference in Nashville, TN; the professional association for the information transport systems (ITS) industry reports that a combined 2,100 registered attendees, exhibitors and visitors made for one of the most successful Spring Conferences in its history.
At the Nashville event, Jessie Spearman, a BICSI ITS technician with Vision Technologies, Inc. of Glen Burnie, MD., won top honors as a participant in the first-ever BICSI Cabling Skills Challenge. The three-day event featured 23 ITS installers and technicians testing their skills and knowledge in various cabling challenges. "I am very excited to be able to say that I am the BICSI Installer of the Year," said Spearman. "The $5,000 check that comes with it isn't bad either."
Additionally, BICSI credentialing exams taken during the Nashville conference resulted in the appointment of 10 new registered communications distribution designers (RCDD), along with two network transport systems (NTS) specialists, two outside plant (OSP) specialists, and one new wireless design (WD) specialist.
Key announcements at the Spring Conference included the pending releases of BICSI's Information Transport Systems Installation Methods Manual, 6th edition; and its Wireless Design Reference Manual, 3rd edition.
Also in Nashville, Jerry Bowman, BICSI's U.S. North-Central Region director, delivered an important update on the BICSI NxtGEN credentialing program.
"This conference has been one of the most successful spring events for BICSI all around," reckons BICSI president Edward Donelan. "We had one of the highest attendance numbers, lively performers and keynote speakers, wonderful reports from vendors in the Exhibit Hall -- and now, in the Cabling Skills Challenge, we have a unique event for branding the Spring Conference as the place to be for the ITS industry."
