With the growth of VoIP and IP-data across enterprise networks, it is critical to determine the ability of the network to support Ethernet data transmission. Frequency-based certifiers test for TIA and ISO parameters such as NEXT and return loss-not for applications. The less-expensive application-based certifiers test IEEE parameters such as bit error rate to determine if any given cable run supports 10/100/1000 Mb Ethernet.
